Hard on the heels of the first round of regional funding allocations for transport, the Government is seeking views on how it should be developed.
Among options floated are a more prescriptive approach to how regions reach their advice on transport investment priorities. The letter to consultees also acknowledges the ‘particular difficulty’ large schemes posed in some regions.
Aligning transport advice with spatial and other strategies could see housing investment included as originally intended.
County Surveyors’ Society president, John Deegan, has pointed out that the Government is still ‘some way’ from a cross-sectoral approach to investment’ (Surveyor, 13 July).
The consultation – designed to inform a revision of the process ahead of decisions by ministers on how the regional allocations should be spent post-2009 – continues until 31 October.
