Transport: No way ahead for Segway

 
The Department for Transport has disappointed enthusiasts for the Segway self-balancing scooter by advising that they are banned from both carriageways and footways.
The vehicles lack EU-type approval to be used on the road, and are banned from pavements under the 1835 Highways Act, the DfT has advised. A DfT factsheet says the £3,000 two-wheeled devices can only be driven on private land, and safety clothing must be worn.
