Patients, staff and visitors to Colchester General Hospital are the first in the UK to take part in a European experiment to limit car use. Essex County Council last week launched a website developed to provide a wealth of travel information on all transport options to and from the hospital. Accessible from home and kiosks on-site, it offers real-time updates on public transport services, plus information on special fares, cycle and walk routes, car-sharing schemes, and parking. The pilot Optimum2 involves 10 trial projects in the UK and the Netherlands, including hospitals in Lancashire, Devon and Edinburgh, and a business area in Southwark.
