Transport: Glasgow harbours dreams of state-of-the-art bus service

Glasgow City Council has announced plans for a £38M ‘state-of-the-art’ bus service, with dedicated lanes supporting new vehicles. The ‘Clyde Fastlink’ buses, planned for a 6.8km route on the northern bank of the River Clyde, could be running by December 2007 if the Scottish Executive gives the project the go-ahead. City councillors submitted a funding bid last week for the enhanced service, to be produced by a firm not yet chosen. The system, connecting Glasgow Harbour to the eastern end of Broomielaw, would be almost fully segregated from the existing road network, separated from general traffic by a raised landscape strip.
