Transport: Emergency work to replace Blackpool tram tracks begins this winter

Urgent works to replace tram tracks in Blackpool will begin this winter. The first section to be tackled as part of a £11.8M emergency scheme is between Pleasure Beach and Central Pier. This will be renewed in tandem with reconstruction of the seawall, currently under way.
Two other sections and electrical infrastructure work at Fleetwood are covered by the regional funding allocation of £10.7M, announced earlier this month.
The city council and Lancashire must await the Government’s assessment of their £72M bid for a full upgrade of the tramway. The disposal of the majority share of the local tram and bus operator and extra borrowing had cut the previous £108M requirement.
