Proposals for a temporary park and ride facility in Colchester are to be considered by the borough council cabinet. The cabinet will be asked to decide on the use of Colchester Borough Council land for the facility, which could be sited at the new Community Stadium near the A12. It will also consider making £200,000 available to Essex County Council to enable delivery of the park and ride facility and support a bid to the Haven Gateway Partnership to allocate growth point funding to the project. Colchester Borough Council has been working in partnership with Essex County Council to deliver park and ride for the borough as part of the wider renaissance programme and transport strategy for the town. Cllr Norman Hume, Essex County Council cabinet member for highways, said: ‘We believe this park and ride service in north Colchester will reduce congestion in the town centre and provide a cheaper and better alternative… than driving into town.’
