Trams tyre York’s patience

York’s pilot scheme for a ‘tram on tyres’ has overcome technical teething troubles, according to operators First Group.
A First spokesman claimed that problems – which included two of the 11 articulated buses breaking down, and one of the 19m-long vehicles getting stuck at a narrow junction – had been ironed out. Heated local opposition was down to the fact that ‘people in York are conservative with a small c, and don’t like new things’.
