Tram firm aims to safeguard cyclists

Transport Initiatives Edinburgh (TIE) has sought the help of a transport consultancy firm in order to limit disruption caused by the city’s new tram service on its cyclists.

TPi will work in conjunction with Local Transport Projects Limited on a scheme designed to recommend ways to minimise any negative impacts the tram service might have on cyclists and exploit opportunities for improvement.

According to the firm, 4% of commuter journeys are made by bicycle in the city, and the construction of the Edinburgh Tram will affect some of the city’s cycle routes. Edinburgh City Council’s cycling officer, Chris Brace, said the work was an opportunity to promote cycling in the city, and a number of new and improved routes were being assessed.
