Trafford woman gets set to pay the price for abandoning her car

The first fixed penalty notice for a motorist for abandoning a vehicle has been issued, after Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act powers were brought into force in April.
The woman, who has not been named by Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council was fined £200 and could also face a further fine of £2,500 and a prison sentence of three months if she refuses to pay. The woman had abandoned the red five-door hatchback in Stretford.
Council environmental officers are also issuing fixed penalties of £50 to people found dropping litter, including chewing gum and cigarette ends as part of the wider powers under the new act. Since January 424 people have been fined.
