London mayor Ken Livingstone has confirmed that he intends to vary the level of the congestion charge to discourage the use of more polluting vehicles.
Following his declared intention to increase the charge for high-polluting four-wheel drive vehicles (Surveyor, 22 June), the mayor has announced he is asking Transport for London to draw up plans for a variable charge of up to £25 for vehicles producing more than 226g/km of carbon emissions, such as Jeep Cherokees.
