Traffic management: Dispensing with tradition to create a safer method of laying cones

A machine which can automatically lay cones in tapers, straights, and curves was unveiled at a Highways Agency’s roadworker safety day in Area 3 last week. Developed by Greentec Industries, with backing from Area 3 contractor RCS, it is designed to improve roadworker safety and the time taken to set and remove roadworks. The research model of the SafeTcone machine on show can lay and retrieve 750mm cones in various combinations and spacings, including those for tapers under the revised Chapter 8. Already successfully trialled on high-speed dual carriageways, including the A3, HA southeast network performance manager, Barry Westwood, said: ‘This new machine will help to give extra protection to workers on our roads.’ • See page 20 or www.surveyormagazine.com
