Traffic information confession

The Highways Agency this week admitted the information it provides to local traffic managers was poor, but promised this would improve this year.
Trevor Hunt, the HA’s network management team leader, told a London conference: ‘We don’t have real-time information on works, and advance information is not always available.’ Traffic managers say not knowing what is happening on HA roads makes their job difficult.
But, from April, the HA will require contractors doing everything from major works to clearing gullies – some 300,000 jobs in total – to inform them that they are there, with updates every 15 minutes.
