Traders Reach compromise

The proposed bus lane linking the three east Lancashire towns of Accrington, Blackburn and Darwen will have to be revised to incorporate more on-street parking along the route, after local traders argued their businesses would be cut off from potential customers.

The Pennine Reach scheme will now provide two lanes of traffic, the bus lane as well as on-street parking along a section of the A666, avoiding a number of road closures which had caused controversy.

But Hyndburn Borough Council, which takes in Accrington, said any advantage to be gained in bus timetables would be offset by inconvenience to residents wanting to park their cars.
