Track suits those on foot

A new railway path for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders opened this week in the West Auckland area of Durham.

As part of the Gaunless River flood alleviation scheme which involved the creation of new wetlands, a section of the Bishop Auckland to Barnard Castle railway line between West Auckland and Ramshaw was restored.

The project cost £500,000 and provided ‘an easy link’ from surrounding villages, according to Durham County Council.
