Total pledges 100m euros for Notre Dame reconstruction

French oil firm Total has pledged 100 million euros towards the reconstruction of Notre Dame cathedral following the disastrous fire on Monday evening.

The cathedral suffered extensive damage, including the collapse of its roof and central spire. However, firefighters worked for hours to put out the fire and save the main structure of the building.

The cash from Total was announced by CEO Patrick Pouyanne and comes alongside other pledged donations running into hundreds of millions of euros.

Total is known internationally as a supplier of oil and fuels, its bitumen business, while Total Bitumen, supplies asphalt and surface dressing products to the highway sector in the UK.

The firm also supplies low-carbon electricity and states that its ambition is ‘to become the responsible energy major’.
