Total car ban considered

Swansea Council is looking at introducing more car-free hours in the city centre, and even a complete ban on private vehicles.

The proposals follow the start of an ongoing £3.75M scheme to improve the look of the shopping area by introducing new surfacing, street furniture and landmark public art.

A survey in December found 92% of shoppers and traders were in favour of a complete ban, which the council said would be considered. Currently, vehicles are excluded from 10.30am to 4.30pm, and proposals would see this extended to either 9am to 5.30pm or 9.30am to 5pm.
