Tiverton’s banking on European cash to fund improvement scheme

An 18-month project to improve Tiverton’s streetscene is set to begin, after Mid Devon District Council secured a £235,000 grant from the European Regional Development Fund.
The ERDF grant brings the total amount of funding secured to more than £500,000, enough to proceed with the enhancement scheme. Funding also comes from Devon County Council and Mid Devon’s Section 106 pot.
The scheme to improve the Lowman Green, Gold Street and Bampton Streets areas will include: upgrading highway improvement works to provide a higher quality of materials and finish; the introduction of a comprehensive signage scheme; improved street furniture; the development of a pilot shopfront enhancement scheme in Gold Street; and a new ‘Merchants trail’, a heritage project by Tiverton Civic Society.
