The Department for Transport has launched a review into drivers’ hours rules.
Transport minister, Paul Clark, announced the consultation, which will cover the UK domestic drivers’ hours rules as well those for van and many bus drivers.
This will apply to refuse collection and breakdown vehicles, as well as other professional drivers. However, it will not apply to lorries or buses on longer routes, which fall under European Union rules.
Clark said: ‘The domestic drivers’ hours rules affect thousands of workers across the UK, so it is vital that they are effective in keeping drivers, passengers and other road-users safe.
‘This is a wide-ranging consultation and we want to hear from as many drivers, operators and fleet managers as possible so that we can understand how the rules are working on the ground.’
The consultation will close on 13 October.
