Thin surfacings 'peform as well or better' - Roads Board

Thin surfacings, or 'negative texture surfaces', perform equally well or better than traditional materials in most circumstances, according to new best practice guidance.
The UK Roads Board guidance provides a 'rational approach' to the engineering selection of the surfaces. An 'early life' strategy for warning users of the early life skid resistance properties of the surfaces is recommended.
The document also warns that their failure 'can be a swift process' and that further studies are needed in order to provide a procedure for predicting the onset of distress.
