Thefts close footbridges

Two popular footbridges on the Five Weirs Walk in Sheffield were closed after thieves stole cables from safety railings.
The Cobweb Bridge and the Bail Bridge along the 7.5km walk were both fenced off for repairs.
Simon Ogden, secretary of the Five Weirs Trust, said: ‘This is irresponsible. To remove safety rails from any bridge is stupid. The cost of repairs will be £5-10,000 – far in excess of the value of the scrap.’
