TfL offers commuters alternative travel options to beat Tube strike

Transport for London (TfL) tried to counteract the Tube strike this week with a number of extra services in order to help commuters get around the capital.

Disruption hit millions of passengers on Wednesday morning, as the London Underground network shut down for 48 hours from 7pm on 9 June. But as Surveyor went to press, some LU services were already up and running again.|

TfL added 100 extra buses, Oyster pay-as-you-go smartcard use was extended to all National Rail journeys within Greater London, and a free river shuttle service operated between London and Tower Bridges.

During the morning rush hour, taxi drivers operated a ‘marshalled, fixed-fare’ shared taxi service at seven central London destinations. Options for cyclists included commuter-led cycle rides, parking facilities and maps distributed across London.
