TfL maps out plan to limit accidents

Transport for London has launched the first digital map of the capital’s speed limits.

The digital map, which is available for free download on the TfL website, can be integrated on to sat-nav devices, where it will be able to display the current speed limit and alert the driver if they exceed it.

GPS device manufacturers are being encouraged to take full advantage of the resource, which hopes to improve road safety in London. It is estimated that if everyone used the digital map, the number of collisions could be reduced by 10%.

Chris Lines, head of TfL’s road safety unit, said: ‘This technology will mean drivers know the correct speed limit at all times, which will help them drive more safely. This is about helping motorists make their own, informed decisions about the way they drive.’
