TfL ‘hood-winked’ Olympic chiefs over decongestion claim

London Borough of Enfield’s cabinet member for environment has criticised Transport for London for ‘hoodwinking’ Olympic officials over their decongestion plan for the North Circular road.
Terry Neville was critical of the Olympic Delivery Authority’s proposals for the A406, saying they fell short of plans by the authority.
The plan, based on proposals by TfL, aims to deal with congestion on the car-choked Bounds Green to Palmers Green stretch of the A406, but only adding one extra lane. Enfield council’s preferred project would see three lanes each way.
Neville said: ‘TfL’s plans fail to effectively solve the congestion and pollution problems. ‘It’s hard to stomach reading its boast that the plans will ease congestion – it’s enough to give me indigestion. TfL’s extra lane would not be enough to deal with the massive congestion and high levels of pollution in the area.
‘I urge Lord Coe to intervene and ensure these chaotic plans are consigned to the dustbin – otherwise London’s image could be irretrievably damaged for future investors and tourists and would lead to the games ending up in gridlock.’
