TfL drops enforcement after driver confusion

Transport for London has suspended parking enforcement in a London road and is conducting a review, as part of a bid to reduce the number of fines issued to motorists who are confused by signs.

Enforcement has been suspended in Falloden Way/Market Place, in Hampstead Garden Suburb, due to confusion over loading bays.

Motorists who have been fined while parked on the road could stand to get their money back. Graeme Craig, head of traffic enforcement and congestion, is keen to move TfL away from issuing fines to those drivers who are genuinely confused by signs and bay markings, and concentrate instead on persistent offenders.

Mr Craig said: ‘If we see an increase in the number of fines issued, then I want to find out why. ‘If people don’t understand the rules, I would rather stop enforcement to find out what the issue is, and then enforce with clearer signage. ‘We are not in the game of catching people out to further increase revenue.’
