TfL database could speed up advance of technology

~Transport for London~ is aiming to complete a Greater London-wide database of speed limits by the end of the year, paving the way for trials of speed-adaptation technology. TfL is working with the Ordnance Survey to create a digital map needed for a trial of the technology in its own vehicles as early as next year. The idea is that fitting the devices to buses, taxis and council vehicles would keep general traffic to the limit. The information would also be provided to companies producing satellite navigation devices, in order to increase motorists’ awareness of the limits which apply on different parts of the network. A TfL spokesman said: ‘We need to take road safety to the next level.’
