Testing times for tunnel

A full-scale, live emergency exercise successfully tested new fire and safety systems in the Holmesdale Tunnel at the weekend.

The exercise, which simulated a multiple-vehicle collision and lorry fire in the tunnel, allowed the Highways Agency and emergency services to practice their response to a major incident in the tunnel.

During the exercise, the M25 was closed in both directions between junctions 25 and 27, from 1pm until 5am, and fully signed diversions were in place.
