Ten times the risk on five

A European Union road safety group has highlighted five roads in the UK which, it says, need significant remedial works to stop them being accident blackspots.
The European Road Assessment Programme claims that on these roads, the risk of a fatal or serious injury collision is 10 times that of the safest roads.
The UK roads identified are: the A99 between Wick and Latheron, in Caithness; the A682 north of Burnley; the A640 east of Manchester; the A537 east of Macclesfield; and the A54 west of Buxton.
