Temporary service as firm hits trouble

Two local authorities were forced to introduce temporary collection services after recycling contractor, Greencycle, recently went into administration due to ‘financial difficulties’.

Durham City Council resorted to contingency plans which saw it collect its own recycling, while Congleton Borough Council worked closely with Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council to continue kerbside collections.

The responsibility for the affected local authorities’ waste services has now fallen to newly-formed unitary authorities, the Durham Councils and Cheshire East.

Congleton collected its own recyclable waste and delivered it to Crewe’s Pyms Lane depot for onward recycling.

KPMG was appointed as joint administrator for the Middlesex firm as it ceased to operate.
