Team selected to engineer Crossrail

The Department for Transport has announced that Jacobs Engineering has been selected as the Crossrail project representative, following a competitive tender process.

Jacobs’ team of project management professionals will provide oversight support to the project sponsors – DfT and Transport for London – to ensure Crossrail is delivered to the agreed standard.

Transport minister Andrew Adonis said: ‘When Crossrail is completed it will increase London’s rail capacity by 10% and bring 1.5M new commuters within one hour’s journey of the West End and the City.’

The £16bn Crossrail project was given the go ahead after the City of London met the prime minister’s challenge to pay its share and contribute £300M funding to the scheme (Surveyor, 4 October 2007). It is scheduled to open in 2017.
