The UK’s largest streetlighting PFI project, providing replacements and maintenance across three councils, has been awarded to Tay Valley Lighting.
South Coast Street Lighting – comprised of Southampton City, Hampshire County and West Sussex County councils – awarded the £225M, 25-year deal this week.
More than 250,000 streetlights will be replaced or maintained as part of the project.
This will see more efficient, less-polluting lights put in place and allow lighting levels to be controlled depending on time of night and activities in the area.
Each authority will have its own contract with Tay Valley. Southampton’s £30M share will see the majority of the city’s 28,000 streetlights, illuminated signs and bollards replaced or upgraded.
