Tarmac deal paves way to greater efficiency

Nottinghamshire has signed a highways contract with Tarmac, aimed at improving efficiency and sharing best practice.
The Nottinghamshire Highways Partnership contract has an anticipated budget of up to £80M to be spent on improving the county’s roads over the next 10 years. The NHP was developed by the county council in response to the 1998 Rethinking construction report, which called for radical changes to the way construction services were delivered.
Mike Elford, Tarmac’s contracting director for the Midlands, said the collaborative approach would enable the joint contract team to design and implement road repair and road maintenance in the most efficient and sustainable way possible. ‘In particular, early collaborative involvement on contracts enables us to maximise value and minimise waste,’ he said.
The contract will cover a wide range of projects, including highway design, patching, surface renewal, footway edging and curbing, drainage, general highways improvements and traffic management schemes.
