Tackling a growing problem

Highway patrol teams will be out in force across Leicestershire from next week, tackling overgrown verges and tidying up around traffic islands.

Four dedicated Leicestershire County Council teams will be carrying out jobs such as cutting back overgrown vegetation obscuring road signs. Nicholas Rushton, deputy leader of the council, said: ‘We have had a huge amount of growth this summer, with extremely hot weather in May, followed by on and off downpours for the rest of the season. ‘Our autumn spruce-up will help keep the highway tidy and verges under control, as the wet weather continues.’
