TRL charged with helping the Dutch

Researcher TRL is to assist in a Dutch project to explore the possibility of implementing a national road-user charge.
The company has been awarded a contract from the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management for research into the accuracy and reliability of satellite-based road-user charging systems. The study results could pave the way for distance-based charging, whereby the charge is differentiated according to time, place and vehicle-based characteristics, throughout the Netherlands.
The proposed road-pricing scheme would be Europe’s first national charging system that extends to more than 8M vehicles in total.
