Swansea’s public transport project is running right on time

Work on Swansea’s new major public transport system is running to schedule, according to the council’s highways officers.

Six weeks into the programme to create a dedicated track for Swansea Metro, contractors are planning a change to the traffic management in Westway to accommodate the next section of work.

The Metro scheme will be the first public transport service in Wales to use First Transport’s Ftr Streetcar. From next week, traffic will be moved to a single lane in each direction on the west side of the carriageway. It will maintain the current level of traffic flow while work continues on the east side, which will be closed to traffic.

‘The work has been going well over the last six weeks with the minimum of inconvenience to road-users,’ Swansea Council’s interim head of transportation and engineering, Geoff Sheel said.
