Swansea seeks cash to secure safer routes for school kids

Swansea Council has submitted a £15.5M bid to the Welsh Assembly for a number of transport schemes, ranging from the Swansea Metro to road safety projects.
The city’s annual grant submission also includes the Quadrant Interchange, Landore Express Bus Route, and a replacement Sidings Bridge over Fabian Way. Some of the funding could be allocated to local schools to create safer walking environments, under the Safer Routes to Schools initiative.
Khan Price, Swansea Council’s safer routes to school officer, said: ‘We’ve been working with a number of schools to address issues of road safety and how to make the school environment safer for walking.
‘If these bids are successful, the funding would give us the opportunity to install physical measures outside schools to help slow down motorists and provide a safer environment for school children.’
A decision on the grant settlement is expected later this month.
