The £3M makeover of Sutton town centre in south London has received the final backing from the council’s executive. Work will now begin this summer to transform the entire length of the High Street.
Improvements include new surfacing and lights, planting schemes and more space for entertainment. There will be a new layout outside the station and the town square, and road junctions will be redesigned.
The project is being paid for by Transport for London and through Section 106 contributions.
It will be carried out in two phases, starting at the north end of the High Street in July. Cllr Lyn Gleeson, executive member for regeneration on Sutton Council, said: ‘In the current climate it will give the local economy a much-needed boost.’
