Sussex flood solution is in the bag

A Sussex council is testing new flood bags which inflate to the size of a sand-bag on contact with water.

The flood bags contain polymers and weight only 0.2kg when dry, but increase to 20kg when wet. If 1,000 businesses and householders bought a pack of 10 bags, some 10,000 could be deployed in the area within one hour, said Adur District Council, which is testing the bags.

Council leader, Neil Parkin, said: ‘These flood bags would certainly help in the early stages of flooding and help prevent some of the devastating water damage that happens when places flood.’
