Survey puts Dundee top of car-friendly cities

Motorists in Dundee enjoy the UK’s most car-friendly city, while Cardiff is rated the worst place to drive, according to a survey by Virgin Money insurance company.

The survey assessed towns and cities by a range of criteria, from petrol prices and car crime to car park spaces and the number of speed cameras on local roads.

For the second year running, Dundee came first, beating off challenges from Aberdeen, Telford, Ipswich, Dudley, Norwich, Brighton and Hove, Peterborough, Poole and West Bromwich. At the lower end, Nottingham, London, Leeds, Slough, Swansea, Oldham, Leicester, Newport and Reading all trailed behind Cardiff, which scored poorly for its lack of car parking and high level of car crime. Researchers found London was the most expensive place to park, with a two-hour stay costing £11.
