Surrey is a step closer to pioneering a county-wide transport system after the council’s executive approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for Transport for Surrey (TfS).
The county council wants to develop an integrated transport system for Surrey in a similar style to Transport for London.
The aim is to bring together local authorities, transport providers and agencies to improve coordination and partnership working, reduce waste and duplication, and trial innovative ways of tackling issues such as congestion and accessibility.
The MOU is designed to clarify how TfS will be organised and operated. It will be taken to the next TfS board meeting on Friday for approval by other partners.
David Munro, Surrey’s executive member for transport, said: ‘People should be able to get their travel information from one source, get one through ticket for their journeys and have more travel choice.
‘The Transport for Surrey concept has been enthusiastically received by all the organisations we are working with, and we look forward to getting this memorandum agreed on 19 September so we can forge ahead with TfS.’
