Support for Boris costs job

The chairman of London TravelWatch has been sacked for publicly backing Boris Johnson in the run-up to the mayoral election.

The London Assembly transport committee this week terminated Brian Cooke’s appointment over a breach of his terms and conditions.

Cooke had issued a statement to the media expressing support for then-candidate Johnson. His four-year term of office was due to end on 30 September 2008, and the recruitment process for a new London TravelWatch chair and board member is already under way.
