Strike leaves bins 'too heavy' to be collected

Refuse collectors in Bolton have failed to take away bins which were not collected during the two-day council workers’ strike because they say they are now too heavy.

Householders have complained to Bolton council that refuse has remained uncollected for two weeks after ‘Too heavy’ stickers were left on their bins.

Half of the weekly waste collections were made in the borough during the strike. However, a council spokesperson said only 30 bins out of more than 100,000 had since been deemed to be too heavy. Council recycling officers will advise residents who have experienced problems.
