Strenuous effort sees council spend £3M on recreation upgrades

Darlington Council has announced a £3M initiative to revamp parks and play areas across the borough.
A new, off-road cycle track will be implemented, and some of the area’s most popular open space will be overhauled as part of the project, which aims to bring major improvements to local communities. The scheme will include funding from the recently-signed £8M Local Area Agreement.
Leader of the council, John Williams, said: ‘We are fully committed to improving parks and play areas and this raft of projects will go a long way towards doing that. Darlington’s LAA is pioneering in focusing on enhancing the quality of life for young people.’
Work has already been carried out in some areas.
