Streetscene: Fast food fans who don’t give a rats’ fuel rodent explosion

Streets littered with half-eaten takeaways are leading to an increase in the country’s rat population, according to Encams.
Encams, which promotes the Keep Britain Tidy Campaign, has launched a new initiative aimed at convincing people to use bins.
The campaign was publicised by a model posing with rats and litter in a Perspex ‘coffin’ in Westminster, London.
According to Encams, around 15M people are fuelling a ‘roly-poly’ rat population in the UK by feeding them on dropped burgers, chips and kebabs.
Ben Bradshaw, environment minister, said: ‘Cleaning our streets costs millions of pounds each year – and it’s the taxpayer who foots the bill.’
