Streetscene: Bitter taste after gum drop

A Flixton woman has become the first person to be fined for dropping chewing gum by Trafford Council. She was given a £50 fixed-penalty notice after the offence was spotted in the Regent Road car park in Altrincham.
Since January this year, Trafford has issued 783 fixed-penalty notices for a range of littering offences.
Failure to pay the fine could result in a maximum penalty of £2,500, and a possible three-month prison sentence.
