Street works: Working on idle concept

 
Westminster City Council is planning a small-scale demonstration of its proposed ‘idle working charge’ this autumn.
The proposal, touted as a more acceptable alternative to lane rental for utilities, is designed to encourage bridging of trenches and minimise downtime at all street works. Westminster hopes to follow a voluntary trial with a proper pilot next February.
