Street works: BT ‘was asked’ by councils to postpone EToN4 switch

BT has stressed that it had to ‘accede to requests’ from local highway authorities to delay its switch over to EToN 4 notices. The telecoms company has been criticised by authorities for failing to provide the OD file, necessary for councils to receive its new notices (Surveyor, 26 June). But, it has now been revealed that BT had delayed its switch-over to EToN 4 notices at councils’ requests. Dave Turnball, senior regulatory specialist at Openreach, part of BT, said on 1 May that there were ‘some 70 authorities unable to receive EToN 4 notices’. A number of these ‘EToN 3 authorities’ were struggling with the volume of faxes received from the utilities that were sending the new notices, Turnball stressed in an e-mail to councils. However, the highways officer who complained over still not receiving the new notices from BT, said this week he ‘still hasn’t had anything from BT’.
