Street lighting savings rocked by falling energy prices

 

A Welsh authority has revealed its existing street lighting strategy, based on part night lighting, has fallen short by more than £150,000 a year on expected savings, due in part to falling energy prices.

The council is now losing money on its budget for the efficiency scheme, prompting officers to propose a major £1.2m LED investment. Street lighting experts have suggested other councils should follow suit.
