Steely determination sees Swansea’s landmark project approved

A £3M ‘landmark’ cable-stayed bridge is set to be built in Swansea to complete a park-and-ride express bus route.

Although the cost of the structure had increased from the original £1.5M, because of the soaring price of steel on the world market, City and County of Swansea Council said this would not be passed on to its taxpayers. It would be covered by Welsh Assembly transport grant and Objective One regeneration funds. The structure replaces the Old Sidings bridge, removed two years ago. Swansea’s cabinet member for the environment, Cllr John Hague said that the bridge would ‘provide a quick service into the city centre’.
