Staff suspended as authority probes ‘no work’ allegations

Workers for North Tyneside Council have been suspended pending allegations they were not doing work.
The workers are from the authority’s neighbourhood services team and are believed to be primarily responsible for grass cutting of verges.
The team is also responsible for refuse collections, road sweeping and cleansing, but the council refused to comment on the roles of the 14 individuals involved.
A North Tyneside Council spokesman said: ‘Fourteen members of the council’s neighbourhood services team have been suspended without prejudice in relation to their conduct at work.
‘A full investigation is currently under way.’
The authority was unable to say how long the investigation would last, or what punishments the staff involved would face if the allegations were proved to be true.
