Speeding motorists warned... your number is up

Speeding drivers are seeing their number plate come up in lights under a pilot project introduced in Richmond upon Thames.

Following pressures from Richmond Council and local residents, the London Safety Camera Partnership has installed England’s first fixed-speed indicator device with automatic number-plate recognition.

Drivers who break the 30mph speed limit as they approach Richmond Circus on Lower Mortlake Road will see their speed and number plate flash up on the roadside screens. If the trial proves successful, the device could be rolled out across London.

The council, police, ward councillors and residents had been lobbying Transport for London to introduce traffic-calming measures on the stretch of road.
